Why Does your Dog Suffer from Constipation?

Typically, the main cause of constipation in dogs is dehydration, hair changes, diet, lack of exercise, old age, and / or lack of fiber in their diet, also known as too much human food!

Severe constipation problems can be caused by intestinal obstruction, neurological problems, prostate problems, and / or intestinal parasites. You have to take your pet to the vet immediately.

Before dog pharmacy became a real or imagined health problem, dog owners used everything they had at home to alleviate dog discomfort. These home remedies and the plenty of water available helped many clogged dogs “regularly” again.

What Should you Do to Prevent your Dog from Constipation?

If possible, lift that dog and move. Sometimes the plumbing moves for something as simple as exercise. If your dog is too old to run well, take him for a walk. Carry water with you and try to encourage you to drink one or two drinks along the way.

Tidy up your dog regularly. This is especially important if you have a dog with long hair or thick fur that is heavily shed. It’s not just cats that get “hair balls.” A blockage can be caused by a dog swallowing balls of its hair.

Facilitate regular dry food. Before feeding your pet, wet it and let it soak slightly. When your dog shows signs of improvement, slowly wean them off normal food.

The most important thing to remember is to keep your dog hydrated! If they refuse to drink, mix their water with half the broth.

Ice cubes and ice chips – you can also make ice cubes from broth!

Pumpkin is a canned pumpkin, not a cake filling. 1 teaspoon – 2 teaspoons canned once or twice a day, depending on the size of your dog. Also works against diarrhea! Pick up an ice cube tray from the dollar store. Freeze the pumpkin cubes. Discard them and store in an airtight cooler bag for use as needed.

Breakfast cereals -1/2 cup without sugar bran or chopped wheat, soaked for a few minutes, then canned with extra water or chicken or beef broth.

Chicken or beef broth -1/4 cup – 1 cup, depending on the size of your pet, is added to their canned or breakfast cereals.

Olive oil, cod liver oil, mineral oil or vegetable oil – 1 teaspoon 25 kg mixed with your dog’s canned food.

Metamucil – add 1/2 teaspoon – 1 teaspoon to their canned small dogs. Add 2 tablespoons to their canned food, add extra water for larger dogs. Limit twice a day. Make sure there is plenty of fresh water!

Beans and Asparagus Beans – Add some beans to your dog’s diet to increase their fiber content.

Canned dog food with extra broth or water splash.

Milk, curd or plain yoghurt – Some dogs have problems digesting dairy products. A little milk, yogurt or cottage cheese may be enough to loosen everything. There is nothing more to do!

Bottom line: make sure your dog gets plenty of fluids. Keep them hydrated. Exercise and guide your dog at least twice a day. Feed in smaller portions, more often. If their stools do not soften within 3 days, take them to your veterinarian. Their problem can be more serious than home remedies can cure.
